Become a Coach
With assistance from our leadership team, desirable coach candidates will meet the following requirements:
- Competitive rowing or coxing experience
- Expertise in rowing-specific training and technique
- Previous coaching experience preferred, but not required
- Will be required to hold/obtain a NC Safe Boating License
- Will be required to hold/obtain First Aid and CPR certification
- Will be required to complete the US Rowing SafeSport Certification
- Additional skills (trailer driving, boat maintenance) are preferred, but not required
- Communicating with program participants/parents regarding weather relocation for practices
Volunteer Coach: Volunteer coaches are welcome to assist or lead coached programs and are required to meet the same safety and training standards as a paid assistant or head coach.
Assistant Coach: Coaches with some previous coaching experience may be hired as assistant coaches to fill open coaching positions. Assistant coaches are compensated at a per session (about 2-hours) rate of $20 – $30.
Head Coach: Coaches with demonstrated head coaching excellence may be hired as head coaches to fill open coaching positions. Head coaches are compensated at a per session (about 2-hours) rate of $30 – $50.
Join our Leadership Team
With assistance from our board of directors, desirable leadership team candidates will meet the following requirements:
Program Manager
- Planning and implementing high quality programs consistent with BRC’s mission
- Coordinating with coaches regarding scheduling and equipment sharing
- Communicating with program participants/parents regarding program changes
- Regattas: registering for regattas, coordinating equipment usage/needs with coaches, attending regattas (when applicable)
Program Coordinators (Masters Green, Masters Blue)
- Communicating with coaches and program participants regarding lining up seat fillers for sweep boats and coxswains for practices
- Program coordinator roles are currently volunteer-only
Equipment Manager
- Boat maintenance/repair experience required
- Coaching experience preferred, but not required
- Regattas: attending regattas (when applicable), supervising/directing trailer loading/unloading
Coaching Manager
- Coaching experience and managing a team required
- Competitive rowing or coxing experience
- Training and recruitment of new coaches
